Kathy Vincent
Kathy founded Sandcastles Montessori Preschool in 2005.  Kathy is the Program and Administration Director as well as the Head Teacher in the Preschool and Toddler Programs Monday through Friday.  She received her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education (pre-kindergarten to 2nd grade) and in Elementary Education (K-6th grade) from Johnson State College in Vermont.  Kathy has a current Rhode Island Early Childhood Teaching Certification and a Montessori Teaching Certification for children ages 3 to 6 years old. Before opening SMP, Kathy had over 25 years of experience working with children in an educational setting and assisted in establishing 5 other programs for children.  Kathy has lived in the South County area for over 20 years with her husband and two children who are now in college.
Meet Our Teachers
Sasha Birch
Sasha has been working at SMP since the school was opened in 2005.  Sasha is the Head Teacher in the Preschool Program on Monday through Friday.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education (pre-kindergarten to 2nd grade) from the University of Rhode Island and a current Rhode Island Early Childhood Teaching Certification. Sasha has a Montessori Teaching Certification for children ages 3 to 6 years old and over 19 years of experience working with young children in teaching and child care settings. Sasha and her husband live in South Kingstown with two cats and a puppy.
Amy Tanner
Amy has been working at SMP since the summer of 2009.  Amy is a teacher in the Preschool Program Monday through Wednesday and the Head Teacher in the Toddler Program on Thursdays and Fridays. A former Montessori student, Amy received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Lasell College in Massachusetts.  She is currently participating in the North American Montessori Center Training Program for children ages 3 to 6.  Amy has over 8 years of experience in working with children of all backgrounds including special needs, child care, preschool, and nanny settings. Amy lives in West Kingston with her family.
Melissa Loud
Melissa has been working at SMP since the fall of 2008 and was a Teacher's Aid in the Toddler Program for the 2008/2009 school year. Melissa is currently a Teacher's Aid in the Preschool Program on Monday through Wednesday. She has had many years of experience working with young children in large group child care centers as well as in her own home day care.  A Den Mother and PTO Mom, Melissa lives in South Kingstown with her daughter, age 6 and her son, age 9.
Maria Cauthorn
Maria has been working at SMP since the fall of 2009.  Maria is a Teacher's Aid in the Toddler Program on Thursday and Friday. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Florida and has worked for over 18 years as both a classroom and a substitute teacher for children in preschool through fifth grade.  Maria has two college aged children and lives with her husband in North Kingstown.
Kelly Charland
Kelly has been at SMP since the fall of 2009.  Kelly is a Teacher's Aid in the Preschool Program on Thursday and Friday.  She received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education (1st to 6th grade) from the University of Rhode Island and her Graduate Certification in Special Education (pre-kindergarten to 8th grade) from Rhode Island College.  Kelly has over 19 years of teaching experience for children in preschool through 8th grade.  She lives in Wakefield with her husband and daughter.
